I came across a mathematical problem in Facebook which had a caption saying that in order to solve the problem one must think as a child. And it was stated as a matter of fact that preschoolers were able to solve it in a span of 5-10 minutes, programmers in about an hour, which left the people with a higher education (us) to be challenged to time how long it took us to get the answer. To tell you the truth, I kind of analyzed it for a while but I gave up, I got to lazy to think. Haha. So up until now, an hour or so has passed, I still don’t know the answer. Yup, I feel stupid.
It made me remember how simple life was as a child. I remember not having to dwell on decisions too much because it was easy to decide on certain things. i’m not saying children are smarter and wiser, nah-uh. What im trying to point out is that I’ve noticed that as we grow older, since we learn more things and become familiar to possibilities and whathaveyou, we start to overthink certain matters which lead to pressure, frustration and stress. As for children, decision making seemed so easy. their logic made ours seem stupid. A very concrete example would be the mathematical problem I encountered in fb. Children viewed it in a simple way which made them get the answer while if you over think it like I did, not only did I not solve it, I added stress because of frustration. Another example of the amazing logic children have is a story told by someone I know. He said that a pre school teacher showed her class a picture of a school bus which was drawn in a way that it had a kind of optical illusion which made it look like it was going both ways (left and right) the preschool teacher then asked her students where the bus was going.. I actually saw the picture and I was arguing with myself in my head on which side its heading to. To my surprise I found out that the children immediately said that it was going to the left. The teacher asked why, and the children responded with; its going to the left because we cant see the door because the door is on the right. Hmm. Why dint I think of that? That was actually brilliant! Haha. So there. we have a long way to go in life, it will be difficult but we must enjoy it. “YOLO” (you only live once) is trending now, but yeah. We only do live once and if you live a great one you’ll only need one life indeed. Lets be happy as we conquer each day of the journey with wisdom but always remember to not complicate matters by overthinking. Let the smiles and laughter of children be a constant reminder to each one of us that life can be simple :)
